Welcome, Faculty Members, to the Center for Service Learning:
Service Learning is an excellent way to engage material in your classroom by giving students an opportunity to apply academic constructs to real community problems. Those of us who have used service learning in our classrooms have experienced a new level of excitement and engagement by our students resulting in better understanding and retention of the material.
Often faculty say they would like to include service learning as part of their classroom experience but don't have the time or the resources to locate good community contacts.
The Center for Service Learning was established to give assistance to faculty who would like to incorporate service learning into courses. Contact the Center and ask them for assistance. Staff can help you develop materials and guide you through the process of making community contacts and provide other assistance as needed. Our goal is to increase service learning at KU by making it as easy for you as possible.
"I've incorporated service learning in my classes for years. I believe deeply in its value for our students."
Kathleen McCluskey-Fawcett Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
