Certification Service Days

In conjunction with Alternative Weekend Breaks, the Center for Service Learning has made available service opportunities throughout the semester meant particularly for students working on their Independent Project volunteer hours. Join us for service combined with a reflection session:

Saturday, February 28th | 2:00 to 4:00pm

  • Pioneer Ridge Assisted Living in Lawrence, KS
    Game day with uno, cards, bingo and pictionary with ice cream following
    *In Conjunction with CCO's Into the Streets Week, fee waved
  • Reflection session: 4:30-5:30 pm, Kansas Union, Alcove G

Saturday, March 7th | 10:00am to approximately 4:00 pm

  • Kansas Neurological Institute, Topeka, KS
    St. Patrick's Day Party for residents of the institute--including arts and crafts, games, food, activities
    We will have a quick training and briefing in the morning before we begin
  • Reflection session: 3-4 pm, Kansas Union, Alcove G

Saturday, March 28th | 10:00am to ? (TBA)

  • Rose Brooks Center (Domestic Violence), Kansas City, MO
    Work in Rosie's Closet helping find clothing for families and other special projects for the center
  • Reflection session: 1:15-2:15 pm, Kansas Union, Alcove G

Register
Your first Weekend Break of the academic year costs $5. This money is due with your application unless you have made arrangements with Alternative Breaks ahead of time.

To sign up for a weekend break:

  • Download and complete an application from Alternative Weekend Breaks.
  • Return it to 425 Kansas Union (Student Involvement and Leadership Center).
  • Note: If you have already gone on a Weekend Break trip this school year, you do not need to fill out a second application. Simply contact the Weekend Break coordinators and tell tell them you would like to go on a second trip.
